As a live-in carer, you support an older person, or sometimes an older couple, in their own home. Day to day, that usually means:

• Personal care: help with washing, dressing and medication reminders.
• Light housework: cooking, shopping and keeping the home tidy, much like your own.
• Companionship: conversation, walks and reading — often the part clients value most.
• Gentle mobility support, helping your client stay as active as they safely can.

• €2,146 to €2,943 a month before tax, for 35 to 48 hours a week. About €1,929 to €2,510 after tax.
• A normal week is 35 hours over 5 days. Hours over 35 a week are paid as overtime.
• Paid holidays and Irish public holidays, as Irish law sets out.

Your room and meals are provided by the family you live and work with — the standard live-in model, which means you can put away most of what you earn.
